It wasn't to cheap though we had to pay a ground rent of 1 shilling per year to the Brynkinalt Estate. Then in the late 1990's through hard work and the determination of an excellent executive committee sufficient funds were raised to purchase the land. With the old H.Q looking and being in very bad repair a lottery grant bid was made and proved to be very successful. So in April 2000 the brand new Headquarters were opened, complete with bunkhouse accommodation and showers and fitted kitchen it was a complete contrast to the old one (although I suspect a few tears fell the day it was demolished). The first Scout Master of the newly formed group was John Stokes who was the Chief Ambulance officer at Ifton Colliery. His successor was Fred James who in turn was followed by Harold Potter, Emrys Williams, Bill Griffiths, Alex Reilly, John Hughes, Peter Williams, Martin Brown, Eric Jackson, Ian Roberts and David James and so up to the current crop of Leaders Gareth Pierce , Craig Roberts and Carl Jones. Scouts Over the years there has been many achievements made in Chirk Scouts with about ten gaining their Queen's Scout Award and countless gaining their Chief's Scout Award.
There has also been many changes including
programme changes, uniform changes and the acceptance of girls into scouts
(although Chirk does not advocate the latter as there is a strong Guiding
Group here).
