Ian Roberts - Independent - Chirk North

I was born in Chirk and have lived here all my life. I am married to Hilary and have three grown up children — Craig, Alison and Gareth, and grandson Tomas. We lived on Lodgevale Park for many years until moving back to my family home three years ago. Up until end of June 2008 we ran a small family business Ceiriog Home and Wear here in Chirk

I was a member of Chirk Town Council from 1990 to 2004. During that time I chaired the Town Council in both 1995 and 2000.

At present I am a member of, and Chair of, the Kronospan Liaison Committee and also the Penybont Liaison Group.

I am a member of various other local committees, including the Youth Management Committee and Governor of Ceiriog Junior School.

For the past thirteen years I have represented Chirk North Ward on Wrexham County Borough Council. During that time I chaired the environmental Licensing Committee. I currently sit on two scrutiny panels — Children and Young People and Corporate Governance.

I represent Wrexham County Borough Council on the North Wales Police Authority. I have chaired the above authority for the last three years and also the Police Authorities of Wales for the past year, where I have been able to influence our Local and National Policing policy.

Having lobbied for fair and equitable funding across Wales from both Westminster Government and the Welsh Assembly, I will continue with my best efforts in this area.

Since becoming your councillor I have gained a wide knowledge and good working relationships with the officers and councillors of Wrexham County Borough Council as well as North Wales Police.
